FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s on your mind?

Yes, in most cases. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act requires districts to communicate meaningfully with limited-English-proficient families, and IDEA requires that parents be able to participate in IEP meetings. Districts are expected to arrange a qualified school interpreter rather than rely on a bilingual staff member or the student.

It's strongly discouraged, and for IEP meetings it can create compliance problems. Relatives — especially siblings or the student — often soften, summarize, or omit information, and they aren't bound by confidentiality. A neutral interpreter protects both the family and the district.

Forty-eight hours is the standard window, and a week is better during conference season when demand spikes across districts. For less common languages such as Karen, Oromo, or Amharic, book as soon as the meeting is on the calendar.

Use our phone interpreter services. Front office staff can reach a live interpreter in under a minute with no booking, which covers attendance calls, illness, transportation questions, and anything else that can't wait.

Yes. We send on-site interpreters to districts across Minnesota, including Mankato, Rochester, Owatonna, Faribault, New Ulm, and St. Peter. Where travel isn't practical, video remote interpreting covers scheduled meetings.

Every interpreter assigned to a district is experienced in schools and familiar with special education terminology — evaluation reports, service minutes, accommodations, and procedural safeguards. You can read more about our team on our About Us page.

Interpreters sign confidentiality agreements before receiving any materials, and student records shared with us are handled under FERPA-aligned protocols. Documents are transmitted and stored securely, and nothing is retained beyond the assignment.

School interpreter services are billed hourly with a minimum booking, and districts can be invoiced monthly against a purchase order rather than paying per assignment. We'll set up terms before your first booking. For general questions about scheduling and pricing, see our FAQ section.
